How to Share Your Carpool and Invite Other Parents

Share your carpool and its rides with other parents so you can split the driving. You share it by sending an invitation, and anyone who accepts it joins the carpool. You need to be signed in to send an invitation. If you aren't, Kid Hop asks you to sign in first.

Send an invitation

You can start an invitation from any of these places. They all open the same Invite A Member screen.

  • From the carpool: Open the Carpools tab, tap your carpool, tap the members count (for example 2 Members), then tap Invite a Driver.
  • From a ride: Open an event, choose the To or From tab, tap + in the Drivers row, then tap Invite a Driver.
  • From the Ride Organizer: Open your carpool, tap Organizer, tap Add driver on any day, then tap Invite a Driver.

On the Invite A Member screen, choose how to share:

  • Via QR Code: Best when you're together in person. Ask the other parent to install Kid Hop, tap Join A Carpool (on the home screen or in the menu), tap Scan, and point their camera at the code on your screen.
  • Via Text, Email or WhatsApp: Tap Share and pick an app. The message includes a link and an invite code.

One invitation can be used by several people, so it's fine to share it in a group chat. Invitations expire after 14 days. If one has expired, send a new one.

Accept an invitation

If someone invited you:

  1. Install Kid Hop and sign in.
  2. Tap the link in the invitation. Kid Hop opens and adds you to the carpool.
  3. If the link doesn't work, open Kid Hop, tap Join A Carpool (on the home screen or in the menu), enter the invite code from the message, and tap Join. You can also paste the whole link into that box.

After joining

Kid Hop shows a You're In! screen with two quick questions:

  • Will you be driving? Tap Yes, I'll Drive and set how many seats you have, or tap Not Right Now.
  • Who rides with you? Check the list of riders already in the carpool, then tap Add My Rider if yours isn't there yet.

New members join as non-drivers until they say they'll drive. If you skipped the question, you can become a driver later: open the carpool, tap the members count, open your own card, and set your Seats.

Troubleshooting

  • "Error processing invitation": Make sure you're signed in, not using Kid Hop as a guest. Open the menu, tap Sign In, then enter the code again. If you're already signed in, the invitation may have expired, so ask for a new one.
  • "You cannot invite yourself!": The invitation was opened on the same account that sent it. Send it to the other parent's phone instead.
  • "That doesn't look like a valid invite code or link": Check for typos. Codes are 8 letters and numbers, and capital or small letters both work.
  • Nothing happens after scanning: Scan only reads the QR code on the inviter's Invite A Member screen. For any other code, such as a printed link, type the invite code from the message instead.
  • The Invite A Member screen keeps loading: You need an internet connection to create an invitation. Go online, go back, and open the invite screen again.
  • The carpool doesn't appear yet: Make sure you're online. Shared carpool data can take a moment to sync.
