Potty Whiz uses your phone's notifications for reminders and timer alarms.
If they don't arrive, work through this checklist.
Check the reminder itself
- Reminders need Premium; timers are free.
- A scheduled reminder's switch on the Reminders tab must be on.
- A smart reminder card should show a time, such as "1 hour after activity", not No smart reminder.
- A smart reminder is only set when you log that activity within its "Remind me between..." hours.
For an entry from long ago, the reminder time may already have passed.
Allow notifications
- iPhone: open Settings, tap Notifications, tap Potty Whiz, and turn on Allow Notifications.
- Android: open Settings, tap Apps, tap Potty Whiz, tap Notifications, and turn them on.
If Timer shows "Turn on push notifications", tap Settings and allow them.
Android: allow alarms and reminders
Without it, reminders and alarms can arrive late.
In Settings, find Potty Whiz under Apps and allow "Alarms & reminders"; the path depends on your phone.
Android: turn off battery optimization
Some Android phones stop apps in the background to save battery, so alarms only work when the app is open.
- Open the Android Settings app.
- Tap "Apps", then tap Potty Whiz.
- Under "Usage", tap "Battery".
- Turn on "Allow background activity".
- Tap "Optimize battery usage".
- At the top left, change the list from "Apps not optimized" to "All".
- Find Potty Whiz and turn its switch off.
The names of these screens vary by phone maker.
Silent mode, Focus and Do Not Disturb
- Silent mode, a Focus or Do Not Disturb can silence or hide reminders; allow Potty Whiz in your Focus settings.
- Timer alarms ring even on silent, but during Do Not Disturb the banner may only appear in your notification list.
- A timer started with the sound off only vibrates.
iPhone: don't swipe Potty Whiz away
Timer alarms need Potty Whiz running in the background.
If you swipe it away in the app switcher, you'll see "Your alarms may not ring"; open Potty Whiz again to bring your timers back.
Reminders still arrive when the app is closed.
Family members don't get reminders
- Add them in Remind other team members? on each reminder.
- They need to be signed in on their own phone, in your team, with notifications allowed for Potty Whiz.
- Ask them to pull down on the child's Reminders tab to refresh.
- For timers, family get a notification when you start or cancel one; the alarm rings on the phone that started it.
Weekend tips
The weekend tip notifications are controlled by Potty Training Tips in Settings.
Turning them off doesn't affect reminders or alarms.
Entries from other phones are missing
That's a sync problem.
If you see "Your session has expired and data is not syncing. Please sign in again to resume syncing.", tap Sign In.
Otherwise, see I have missing data or my app is not up to date.
